Hotels, Motels and Inns
Regardless of your budget and the amenities you want in your hotel, you can probably find what you want in the Lexington/Rockbridge area. Most of the hotels are either in or near Lexington, which is near the geographic center of the area, or are easy to get to off the interstate highways. You can find lodging with major national hotel franchises, many of which offer rewards points, nationwide reservation systems and more. Some people particularly like dealing with a known brand wherever they travel. Others like staying at hotels and inns that are unique and distinctive to the area. Whatever your taste in lodging, chances are the Lexington/Rockbridge area can accommodate you. The area also offers a number of smaller inns for those interested in something different. The McCampbell Inn, Alexander Withrow House and the Sheridan Livery Inn, all in downtown Lexington offer the convenience of being within walking distance of Lexingtonís historic sites, diverse shops, art galleries and restaurants. Both are located in buildings over 100 years old but with modern conveniences and individually decorated rooms. House Mountain Inn serves up just the opposite in terms of location. Perched on the shoulder of House Mountain, you can relax in quiet solitude and enjoy the beautiful views, the fireplaces and whirlpool tubs and the excellent food. Maple Hall is an inn created from a 19th century manor house. Additional lodging buildings cluster around a pebble drive. Meals are served in intimate dining rooms and an enclosed verandah overlooking the garden. The area has a variety of national franchise hotels to choose from, with locations and pricing to fit most visitorsí needs. From the northern border of Rockbridge County, thereís the Dayís Inn-Shenandoah Valley. The hotel has beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains from the rooms on the east side of the hotel, an outdoor pool and convenient access to Rockbridge Vineyard, Wadeís Mill and other northern Rockbridge attractions. Itís midway between Lexington and Staunton for those interested in spending time in both of these valley towns. Coming south, Daysís Inn and Howard Johnson Inn are easy to get to at Exit 195 off I-81. Dayís Inn has Aunt Sarahís Pancake House on site, and an outdoor pool. Howard Johnson Inn has nice views of mountains to the west, a new lobby, breakfast bar and gym and an outdoor pool. Both are only four miles north of Lexington. Clustered near Exit 55 off I-64, and just a mile west of the I-81/I-64 interchange are the Super 8 Motel, Country Inn & Suites, Comfort Inn, Best Western Lexington Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Sleep Inn and Best Western Inn at Hunt Ridge. The Sleep Inn is the newest hotel in the area, opening in 2006. The Best Western/Hunt Ridge has a restaurant, G. Willakers, inside the hotel. Besides easy access to the highways and proximity to Lexington, only a mile south, the Virginia Horse Center is within a mile of all of these hotels. There are also several restaurants close by to all of these hotels. In Lexington, the Hampton Inn Col Alto, on East Nelson St (US Rt. 60) defies the image of franchise hotels. The main building is a mansion dating from the 1820, with a tasteful hotel wing added that compliments the original building. The 19th century manor offers an additional ten period-style rooms. The hotel has meeting space for 200. It is within walking distance of downtown Lexington. On the southern side of Lexington at the intersection of the Rt. 11 bypass and Main Street (Business US Rt. 11) is the Red Carpet Inn. The hotel offers convenience to Lexington, the Horse Center and Natural Bridge. There is a restaurant next door. The Budget Inn is at Exit 180 off I-81 near Natural Bridge. The Pink Cadillac Restaurant is next door. Natural Bridge is five miles south on Rt. 11 and the Virginia Safari Park is just down the street. Other hotels, with contact information, are listed in the Directory.
