CEI Submits Energy Conversion Project Proposal A decision on what to do with Rockbridge County’s trash in the future needs to be made by the end of the year. That appeared to be the consensus of the Board of Supervisors, meeting Monday as the county’s Solid Waste Authority.

Northbound traffic on Interstate 81 between exit 195 at Timber Ridge and exit 200 at Fairfield will be diverted onto U.S. 11 between 8:30 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, and 6 a.m. on Friday. The left southbound lane of I-81 will also be closed from mile marker 198.8 to 198.6 during the nighttime hours.

The Board of Supervisors on Monday discussed whether to support having all of U.S. 11 through Rockbridge County included in the designation of “The Wilderness Road: Virginia’s Heritage Migration Route.”

The county could be entitled to additional representation on the Rockbridge Regional Jail Commission, Rusty Ford reported to the Board of Supervisors on Monday.

Virginia Military Institute will resume its efforts to reduce the size of the deer herd on the post with an urban hunting program starting this Saturday, Oct. 2, and continuing through Jan. 1, 2011.

Some county residents got an unpleasant surprise recently when they opened up their personal property tax bills and found they’d be paying more than they expected.

The Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors gave its approval Monday to a performance agreement with Heatex Inc. that paves the way for a 39,000-square-foot plant to be built in the Natural Bridge Industrial Park.
