Museum of Military Memorabilia

This unique museum is the result of a lifetime of collecting by the late Ronald V. J. Mountain. The museum is run by his wife, Pat, herself a knowledgable and enthusiastic steward of the collection.

At the museum’s entrance, visitors are greeted by the sound of stirring martial music. Inside the museum, in well-lit display cases, are the treasures of the collection, dating from the 1700s through the first Gulf War.

About half the collection is British military. Dazzling dress uniforms for the British Dragoons, Hussars and Lancers stand at attention. One case contains bandsmen’s uniforms from each of the five regiments of foot guards of the Household Division, more commonly known as the Life Guards. Perhaps the most recognizable piece in the museum is a 1936 uniform of the Yeoman Warders, the “Beefeaters” the guard the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London.

Other European and Asian military units are represented in fine fashion. American militaria is also in abundance. Uniforms and papaphernalia from all branches of the U.S. military are on display. The museum has a few Civil War items, including an original Union artilleryman’s jacket.

Admission to the museum is $3.00 with family and group discounts available. Hours are from April through October, Wednesday through Friday, noon to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 to 5. Apppointments for other times can be made year round by calling Pat Mountain at (540) 464-3041.
