George C. Marshall Research Library and Museum
Sir Winston Churchill once said of General George Catlett Marshall: “Succeeding generations must not be allowed to forget his achievements and his example.” This admonition is well heeded at George C. Marshall Library and Museum, located on the VMI campus and adjacent to Washington and Lee University.
Visitors to the museum will gain an appreciation for the qualities of this unique citizen-soldier, “organizer of victory” in World War II, and creator of the Marshall Plan. Photomurals, artifacts and interactive exhibits trace General Marshall’s life from boyhood in Uniontown, Pa., thrugh his cadetship at the Virginia Military Institute, to World War I, World War II and his postwar years as Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense.
A World War II-era Jeep and an electronic map depicting the ebb and flow of World War II are visitor favorites, along with Marshall’s Nobel Prize for Peace and oher medals.
The Marshall Museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and free for students. Group rates are available. Peace is also on display. A large lighted world map combined with an audio script traces the history of World War II.
